Pit makes his first appearance as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which also introduces his new character design compared to those from older versions of the Kid Icarus series. Pit is among the fighters to be available from the start of the game.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is also the first game in which Pit has a voice actor. In the English version he is voiced by Lani Minella, while in the Japanese version, he is voiced by Minami Takayama.

Weapons and Abilities[]

Pit wields the Sacred Bow of Palutena, also called the Palutena Bow. He can split it into dual blades with one in a reverse grip for quick separation and attachment, a trait that would carry on to its appearance in Uprising along with all other bows of the game. Pit changes the weapon assembly into three different forms to attack: a bow, dual blades, and a double-headed sword.

He is equipped with the Mirror Shield of the Three Sacred Treasures, which is used to reflect projectiles and protect Pit from frontal attacks.

He can also use the Wings of Icarus, which allows him to fly freely for a short time. This concept is similar to the Angel's Feather from the original Kid Icarus.

After obtaining the Smash Ball, Pit can use his Final Smash, Palutena's Army, to call upon a swarm of Centurions to attack his opponents.

Pit is one of three characters who are capable of gliding, the other two being Meta Knight and Charizard.

Ranking as a Character[]

Due to his moveset (his fast projectile, which is controllable after release and can cover a great distance in a short time; his superior recovery; his multiple projectile-reflecting moves; and his multi-hit attacks, which include his Neutral Air attack and Forward Special), Pit is considered easy to use by beginners.

However, without many reliable options for KOing opponents, and the inability to reactivate the Wings of Icarus should he be hit during the move until he lands again, he is kept from a higher spot on the tier list—he currently ranks 17th out of 38 characters on the tier list.

Role in the Subspace Emissary[]

Pit's introduction snapshot in The Subspace Emissary

Pit joins the story of The Subspace Emissary early on. He is first seen watching the fight between Mario and Kirby at Midair Stadium through a mystical fountain in Skyworld. After Pit witnesses the devastation of a Subspace Bomb from the Subspace Army, Palutena appears to give him her Bow, and sends him off to go and assist the other heroes in defeating the Subspace Army.

Pit hurries down to the world, and he lands on a spot near the Halberd. For Pit's first playable stage appearance, Skyworld, he has to fight Primids and other spawning enemies. He also finds Mario, transformed into a trophy. Pit awakens Mario, and the two team up. They soon witness Fox's Arwing chasing after Halberd.

Upon reaching solid ground, Pit and Mario find the Ancient Minister carrying another Subspace Bomb. However, the two are unable to reach the Ancient Minister, who then escapes. The events that follow depends on whether Zelda or Peach was rescued at the Midair Stadium.

Pit and Mario, after defeating Link and Yoshi

If Zelda was rescued, Pit destroys the Dark Cannon that False Zelda is about to fire at Link and Yoshi, and subsequently fights her with Mario. Pit and Mario are then attacked by Link and Yoshi, who mistakenly believe False Zelda to be the real Zelda. If Peach was rescued instead, Pit and Mario are targeted by False Peach, who was defeated by Link and Yoshi. Pit and Mario then end up fighting them as well. In both variants, the outcome is similar; the team who defeated the fake princess also defeat the other team, who gets snatched up by King Dedede's Cargo. However, Kirby arrives and revives the defeated team from their trophy forms, then either Pit or Link blows out the Cargo's engine, and all five characters go after King Dedede.

Pit and the others track Dedede down to his castle, but upon entering, they find the throne room in ruins. They explore a nearby cave and eventually find Bowser getting away with the princess who had not been rescued at the start. Pit fires an arrow at Bowser, but this only causes a brooch that the princess was wearing to fall off.

Pit and the others eventually find the Ancient Minister again, this time in the Wilds. After chasing him for a period of time, the R.O.B.s intervene and detonate the Subspace Bomb that the Minister had been carrying. Pit and the others escape from the blast and reach the Canyon, where they fought hordes from the Subspace Army and meet other heroes. They were eventually joined by even more fighters before entering Subspace, where they met defeat by Tabuu.

Fortunately, King Dedede had designed brooches (including the one Kirby ate) to revive fighters from their trophy forms after a set amount of time. With Luigi and Ness by his side, Dedede rescues Pit and most of the others, while Kirby saves the remainder of the team. They then explore the Great Maze before reaching Tabuu for their final battle.

Special[]

Neutral Special: Palutena's Arrow
Pit 070528a-l
"Change the angle of fire and trajectory of your ethereal arrows once you've drawn the bow."
Description Pit's basic ranged attack deals minor damage and knockback, but these parameters increase if the button is held down for a few moments. The arrow can be aimed, but charging the attack causes it to fly faster and thus becomes more difficult to guide. Unlike the traditional Arrow of Light, this doesn't pierce through targets. Pit's bow can be aimed straight up before shooting, and the arrow can be controlled after it leaves the bow; however, because of its speed, it is difficult to perform a full 360 degree turn with the arrow. Unlike other characters' projectiles, Pit's projectiles seem to have an unlimited range (or unlimited expire time).
Damage 5% (Uncharged), 11% (Fully Charged)
Button Code Activate: B (Hold to charge)
Aim before launch: (While charging) Left, Right, or Up
Launch: Release B or wait until full charge
Aim after launch: Any Directional Input
Up Special: Wings of Icarus
SSBB- Spesh Fly
"Fly around the stage on a pair of wings. The wings dissolve after a short time."
Description This grants Pit limited flight lasting roughly 4 seconds, making it one of the best recovery moves in the game; Pit can almost always recover using this move unless he's blasted off the screen. Unfortunately, this move leaves him defenseless while in flight, and being hit cancels it.
Damage N/A
Button Code Up + B
Side Special: Angel Ring
AngelRing
"Spin Palutena's Bow at blinding speed, scoring multiple hits on the enemy."
Description Pit spins his bow in front of him like a buzzsaw. Pit can maintain this move indefinitely and it can also reflect projectiles, but he can't move while performing it.
Damage 15% when not repeated
Button Code Left/Right + B
Down Special: Mirror Shield

"Projectiles that hit the mirror shield bounce back and cause more damage than they did before."
Description Pit drops into a crouch and pulls out a reflective mirror shield. It reflects all projectiles and items that hit it. Physical contact with the shield inflicts minor damage, but it's best used to counter ranged attacks. If an opponent strikes the shield just as it is deployed, it will turn the opponent around.
Damage Reflects projectiles at 1.5x damage
Button Code Down + B

Final Smash[]

Palutena's Army

"Call up an immense image of Palutena, Goddess of Light. Pit, captain of Palutena's Army, commands the Centurions to divebomb into enemies."
Description Pit summons an army of Centurions to attack all opponents on the stage. The Centurions will rush to their targets and attempt to slam into them, trying to knock them off the screen. The Centurions immediately fall off-screen afterward, regardless of whether they hit players or not.
Damage 16% per hit
Button Code (After breaking open the Smash Ball) B

Palutena's Army[]

Pit's Final Smash. An image of the goddess Palutena appears, heralding the arrival of Pit's legions, the Centurions. These flying warriors proceed to attack all enemies with fierce savagery. Once a Centurion strikes an enemy, he falls from the sky, never to fly again. Centurions are so fast that dodging them is very hard. Take heart, Centurions! Your deaths are not in vain!

Codec Conversation[]

Similar to the Palutena's Guidance feature in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, Codec Conversations are an easter egg feature in Super Smash Bros. Brawl that showcases conversations between Snake, Otacon, Mei Ling, and Roy Campbell of the Metal Gear series.

In order to activate it, the player must tap Snake's down taunt briefly and gently while at the Shadow Moses Island stage.

The following is Pit's Codec Conversation.

Snake: Otacon, there's a kid with wings out here. Is he a mutant? Or is he just into costumes?
Otacon: That's Pit, Snake. Pit is an angel from Angel Land. He's the captain of Palutena's Army.
Snake: Angels. Give me a break!
Otacon: I dunno, maybe he's from a different species. But those wings on his back and those mysterious weapons he has are the real deal. He may look young, but he's a veteran warrior. Watch yourself. He used to be a weakling, but countless trials over the years have toughened him up.
Snake: And by trials, you mean, "Game Overs"?
Otacon: Yeah, you should know all about that.
