Characteristics
Girins are large insects that have dug their way to the Overworld using their large green mandibles. They are mainly pink in color with a yellow underside and green eyes. Aside from their head, the rest of their body is never seen because they mostly stay underground. They don't directly hunt for food; rather, they lie in wait, burrowed within the earth until an unlucky soul passes above their nest. Once that happens, most creatures will be unable to escape the powerful grip of a Girin's mandibles as it pops out from the ground. However, if the monster's prey does manage to escape its grasp, it will still try to attack by tossing rocks at its fleeing meal.
Appearances
Kid Icarus
"A giant ant that lives deep in the ground and lies in wait for Pit. Once it catches things in its big jaws, it never lets them get away."
Pit should not worry about physical contact, as Girin cannot actually trap him.

Kid Icarus: Uprising
Girin return in this game. They stay under ground until Pit is close to them, then they jump out and smash the ground creating shock waves that will damage Pit. They are first seen in Chapter 5.
Idol Description
Rather than waiting for prey to fall into its trap, this hyperevolved ant lion jumps out at enemies, attempting to crush them in its pincers. However, Girin leaves itself open to attack after this lunge and will retreat in surprise if hit.
Trivia
- Girin is likely based off of an antlion.
- Girin is one of the few enemies in the Kid Icarus game whose full body is never seen, as fellow burrowers McGoo and Holer rise completely out of the ground when they attack.
