Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the third installment of the Nintendo crossover fighting game series Super Smash Bros., released on the Nintendo Wii in North America in March 2008. It features Pit as a playable character, a first since the 1991 game Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters.
Characters from Kid Icarus[]
- Pit: The only Kid Icarus-related fighter in the game, Pit is featured as a starting playable character. Pit was given a significant redesign by Masahiro Sakurai for Brawl, which was approved by Pit's creator and inspired by the evolution of Link's design over the years,[1] and now looks to be roughly 13 years of age.[2]
- Palutena: While not a playable character, she appears in The Subspace Emissary, Pit's Final Smash, and as a trophy.
Stages from Kid Icarus[]
The only Kid Icarus stage included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Skyworld, a small stage based on the location of the same name from the original Kid Icarus. This stage takes place in the sky, where fighters can engage in battle on top of breakable platforms supported by clouds.
Trophies from Kid Icarus[]
- For more information, see List of Kid Icarus Trophies.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features collectable trophies from various series, including four from the Kid Icarus series.
Music from Kid Icarus[]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features four music tracks from the original Kid Icarus. Each track has been recreated into new orchestral arrangements with the exception of the Original Medley, which is composed entirely of 8-bit tracks from the original game. The songs appear as background music for the Skyworld stage, and can also be listened to by selecting them on the Sound Test section of the main menu.
- Underworld
- Skyworld
- Title (Kid Icarus)
- Kid Icarus Original Medley
The Subspace Emissary[]
The Subspace Emissary is the adventure mode featured in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It tells the story of numerous Nintendo characters banding together to fight against a new threat called the Subspace Army. Here, Palutena assigns Pit the task of defeating the Subspace Army, granting him her bow to use during his adventure.
Masterpieces[]
Masterpieces is a mode featuring free, time-limited trial versions of select classic Nintendo titles debuting in Brawl. The original Kid Icarus is playable with a time limit of 1:30 and begins on the first section of the Underworld stage. The mode and Kid Icarus trial return exclusively for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Trivia[]
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl's redesigns of Pit and Palutena sparked new interest in the Kid Icarus series, which helped pave the way to the creation of Kid Icarus: Uprising.
- Dark Pit's design was likely inspired by Pit's black palette swap in the game, which Masahiro Sakurai nicknamed "fallen angel."[3]
- Dark Pit would later become a playable fighter in the next installment, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, as a clone of Pit.
- Palutena references the events of Subspace Emissary during the Palutena's Guidance conversation for Mario in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
- Additionally, Pit references Shadow Bugs from Brawl's Subspace Emissary during Mr. Game & Watch's conversation as a nod to his role in the mode; according to Masahiro Sakurai, Shadow Bugs are a substance that can be extracted from Mr. Game & Watch, which allowed Tabuu to create the Subspace Army.[4]
